Flu Care Plan
Flu Care Plan
Flu is an infectious viral illness spread by coughs and sneezes. It’s not the same as the common cold, it is caused by a different group of viruses. Symptoms tend to be more severe and last longer. They peak after two to three days and usually last for a week or so.
The infectious period is a day before the symptoms start and continues for a further five or six days. Elderly people and anyone with certain long-term medical conditions are more likely to have a bad case of flu, and are also more likely to develop a serious complication such as a chest infection. Occasionally, this chest infection can become serious and develop into pneumonia.
The Care Plan sets out a clear explanation of the resident’s issue, and will guide the nurse or carer through the process of preparing a comprehensive, individual person centred Care Plan.
