Migraine Care Plan

A migraine is usually a severe headache felt as a throbbing pain at the front or side of the head. Some people may also have other symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting or increased sensitivity to light or sound. They usually begin in early adulthood.

Some people have migraines frequently, up to several times a week, others only have a migraine occasionally. Migraine attacks can be associated with certain triggers, which can include stress, tiredness and certain foods or drinks. It is important to seek medical advice if, a migraine lasts for more than 72 hours. This type of migraine is known as status migrainosus.

The Care Plan sets out a clear explanation of the resident’s issue, and will quickly guide the nurse or carer through the process of preparing a comprehensive, individual person centred Care Plan.
